The TRUTH About Diets | What They DON’T Want You to Know!

by | Sep 3, 2021 | Health & Nutrition

Welcome to the Fitness Adaptive live podcast. My name is Fletcher Stanworth, I’m the founder and CEO of fitness adaptive. Today I’m going to be talking about something that is regularly argued about but oddly never resolved. This is “The Truth About Common Diets” and if they are actually working for you.

Before I begin, I always like to share statistics and facts to help everyone understand just how much things make an impact on a personal level, and on the corporate side of things. Many people can argue opinions, but when you get down to the facts, you can start making changes to benefit your personal life.

To begin, the weight loss market is worth an estimated 70$ billion dollars. According to theladders.com, this is staffed by the 45 million people that take up at least one new diet per year.

This means that the average adult will try about 126 different diets in their lifetime.

Now, that’s a LOT of numbers but the question is, how effective really is the diet industry? Are they actually benefiting people or are they just in it for the money?

Well, if we look at some more statistics, you’ll see the truth in the industry.

Much of the research about dieting focuses on weight loss — which (at least in the literature) shows a wide range of success and failure. While statistics vary, one oft-cited July 2005 study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that:

  • About 20% of people are successful at maintaining their weight loss over the long-term (at least one year).
  • About 80% of people are not successful at keeping their weight off over the long-term.

So, it’s pretty clear and evident that most people don’t succeed at diets, benefiting the weight loss industry. It’s a vicious cycle that never ends but I’m here to tell you what you can do to break it.

First of all, there are hundreds of diets being used in the world today. Most of these diets are modified versions of each other but generally, there are a few that stand out from the rest.

From the keto diet, to the paleo diet, these diets are all recommended to help you loose weight. They all promise results but the question is, why arent you seeing any progress? So here’s my question: what’s the best diet?

The secret? There INSN’T one.

Now, to explain this further, the first thing you need to know is that everyone’s body is different, therefore, everyone has different needs when it comes to nutrition. There is no “one size fits all” that can apply to everyone in the world. When diets advertise that they can help anyone and everyone, it’s a misleading concept due to the fact that everyone’s body works differently.

There is no specific diet that will have the same effects on ten different clients with different nutritional needs. As we saw, around 80-90% of diets fail.

What you need to know is that that you aren’t failing, the diets are failing YOU!

Companies that advertise these diets claim that they are super effective with helping you reach your fitness goals. But in reality, these claims are based off of commission and profit, not based on actual results and progress, which is one reason why so many diets fail their clients.

For example, a diet claims that you will lose 50lb in four months, guaranteed! Let’s take a client that weighs 200lb with let’s say 20% body fat. Do the math, 20% of 200lb is 40lb. This Claim of losing 50lb, is therefore unrealistic for this client because, this client doesn’t even have 50 lb of body fat to even burn off. The problem with all these diets is that they are “generalized”diets, and are therefore not specific to different people with different nutritional needs. If you’re an athlete looking to run faster, jump higher, increase endurance, whatever the case may be, a diet that is specific to your body’s needs is gonna maximize your progress by giving your body the specific nutrients it needs in order to maximize performance.

So here’s my promise to you. When you sign up with FitnessAdaptive, I will teach you how to calculate your specific needs based on your specific body type. If you want good nutrition, forget common diets and get a diet that’s specific to YOU!
